I just don't know what to buy her. She doesn't *need* toys but of course would like them nonetheless. We don't buy many Fisherprice or Preschool toys (this is by my discretion). Anyone have suggestions for some timeless classic toys for this age?

Here are a few my 4 yo dd enjoys - magna doodle, lite brite, puzzles, she really loves the chicken socks series from klutz publishing. Here's the link to see them at amazon (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/104-0988781-1735938?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=chicken+socks) - dd loves the pom pom animals, tree house bugs, scissors book, and we have the pop bead people on the way.

What about cloth dolls, blocks, books, string beads, lap harp or other musical instrument.

These are two places that have neat items:

My li'l princess will be 4 in Feb; I have been absolutely amazed at how girlie she is w/ 4 other brothers!! I blame it on her dad. My efforts to avoid all things pink from the beginning have backfired something fierce --she is drawn to it. We too have a l-o-t of toys. i vote for getting something consumable --mine is getting princess art supplies from the dollar store, lol.

Other things she likes: a package of bandaids for her dolls. purses/bags/containers that close w/ handles. Dress up stuff --esp skirts "that spin way out." Puppets. videos. Potato head. The Large mega blocks. Pop up tents to play in.

good luck!

I would suggest felt people. My dd's love them. You could also get/make dress-up clothes. Anything shiny is always popular. If you want a waldorf touch you could get some playsilks. I was this close to getting some at Christmas.

You could also get some real baking equipment. My dd's 7 and 5 have their own little bread pans, and each time I make bread they get to 'make" their own little loaf. It's just too cute:)

Oh, how about a sticker book. I like the usborne ones. My dd's loved the ones my sister would send them.
