WE have a 60+ older home and the tub really needs to have something done. from age and whatnot, the tub finish is very etched inside and getting harder to clean.
We really don't want to do a tear out replacement and have heard of reglazing or the new acrylic refinishing (not insets over the old tub).
Has anyone done this? Would you do it again? I know the warranties are only about 5 years, and this is the only bathroom we have, so it gets a LOT of use.
Your experience?

We did, and it looked great. You just have to be really careful with what you put in the tub and what you clean it with.

So what can you clean it with?

Nothing abrasive.

We clean ours with Blue Dawn. We have had 2 different tubs done. The first one we were very pleased with the results. This one, not so much. We have had them out multiple times to patch things up. THey did not do a good job, IMO. I am very disappointed with the quality of work they did.
THe first tub (in another house in another state) was great. THe guy did a fantastic job. That's why we chose to have it done again. Now, we regret that decision based on this particular place with the lack of quality.

It was rough in some places....and uneven....I had them come back out....and it was WORSE...
At that point...I decided not to call them again....

My sister did the reglazing thing. It looked fine at first, but right about when the warranty expired she noticed problems around the drain and was able to actually peel pieces off. She said she wouldn't do it again, but would do the acrylic overlays instead. My brother did the acrylic overlay and it looks fine. Acrylic scratches easily (compared to cast iron, which is what I prefer) but as long as you use non-abrasive cleaners it should be fine.

Ours looked great when it was first done (in our ~60yo house), but it hasn't stayed looking great. I guess it's still better than it *was*, for what that's worth, but it's not amazing or anything.
I consider it a stop-gap. It bought us a little time. I think the guy who did it did a perfectly "adequate" job, but as someone else mentioned, it has grown discolored and begun to chip around the drain. I also find it difficult to clean, 'cause I haven't figured out how to do that without risk of damaging the finish.
It's better than nothing. I'd sure rather have gotten a new tub though! ;)
