My ds5 is doing a great job learning to read with OPGTR. However, he has great confusion when it comes to the upper case letter I, when it looks like l (some books print this way) and the lower case L, l.

They do look exactly the same and when he comes to the lower case l he thinks it is the upper case I (that looks like l). This is very frustrating for him. Right now I just correct him but he likes to read it on his own.

I am sorry if this is confusing. Does any one have any suggestion on how I can make this easier for him to discern?

You could give him a quick lesson in why capital letters are used. I just told my 5 yo that capitals are for names of things and the first letter of sentences. I will expand on it later, of course, but for now, that helps him know when to expect a capital or lower case letter.
