On NPR this morning, they talked about two new scams involving the rebate checks that are supposed to go out this summer.
In both cases, someone claiming to be an IRS agent will call and will mention your rebate check. Then they will want to confirm your bank account and personal information for you to receive this check.
This is a scam. They reported that all information will be taken from your 2007 tax returns and no one from the IRS will contact you about the checks. (audits are another story).
