My kids are ages 6, 4, and 1. Dd will be in first grade and we will be starting Ancients with SOTW. I just keep going and fold the younger siblings in? Or should I wait and do Ancients till my dd is in second grade? How do you guys combine?

I know I'm just starting, but I like to plan :D

I would just fold the kids in as they get older, they will pick up a fair bit at age 4, especially if you do the activities.

This is exactly what we have done and it has worked out very nicely for the last eight years. :) I would not wait, but just add your little ones in as they age. Enjoy!

Do ancients now. You'd be surprised what your 4yo will pick up.

I started last year w a 5-6 yo & a 3yo. My younger learned almost as much as the older, & she thought it was fun. It was story time! And if I didn't have a map for her to color, too, she was quite put out.

Now this yr, she'd rather play, but she reluctantly participates anyway. Not that I make her, just that she doesn't like to play alone, lol. And she still answers the questions better than my older dc.

She won't be in 1st g until ds is in 4th, so I couldn't have really waited. Otoh, by the time she's there, it won't be like she's missed any history, either, since she's been along for the ride. The only difference, really, is the level of narration I require. (As in, she doesn't have to do one now but sometimes wants to anyway.)

How 'bout this--
Do years 1, 2, and 3, then do one year of geography, then do year 4. SWB says SOTW 4 should really be for 4th grade, but she's coming out with a set of pages for youngers. Maybe you could use that for the younger one.
Then when you start ancients again, you'll have
11, 9, and 6. You could use MOH with them for the second go-round, or combine SOTW with it, but give the youngest one activities from the AG and the coloring pages.

We had the same age spread 2 years ago when my oldest was in 1st. We just started Ancients with the oldest and let the 4yo listen in as much as possible. My current youngest (for a couple more months at least) started listening in when he was 2. He developed his passion for knights and castles from the girls history lessons that second year, and loves listening to the stories this year as well. Just fold them in as we go is working great for us.
