What are your fav. sites for finding info.? I need to research nutrition for my DSs...from weight gain to foods to activities.

As some of you know my DS17 has been tested for JRA and Lupus both of which have been neg. which is wonderful, but what's going on with him? I don't Know. I have been making him some "momma milkshakes" which have helped him with adding some weight and extra nutrtionals values, but he's going to get bored with these soon. He eats well, but excercises 4-6 hrs each day (btwn his job and training). So, most everything he takes in is burned up quickly and doesn't stay long enough to stick.

I'm pretty sure that if he could put on a few pounds he'd be able to fight whatever is going on with him more easily.

If you don't know his symptoms, here they are...swollen/achy redden joints(mostly hands and feet), fatigue, itchy skin, welps, cough, ...

Today he went for more blood work, chest x-rays, mono test, and is to be scheduled for an echo-gram.

Thanks in advance for any information you're willing to share.

I don't know any websites but I recently came across a book at the library that was a "lupus diet". I'm sorry I don't know the name (though it had those two words in the title) because I was actually looking for a fibromyalgia diet for myself and didn't pick this one up. Maybe google "lupus diet"?

There's a family nutrition section at www.askdrsears.com that includes information on teen and sport nutrition.

I'm afraid I'm no help with symptoms, but I hope your ds starts feeling better soon!

I second www.askdrsears.com (http://www.askdrsears.com) :iagree:

I'm sorry you are going through this. While I am no expert, I do work with a team associated with Dr. Sears and do some some talks in my community about children and healthy eating. If you would like, you can PM me. Do check out his website though - tons of information -- from probiotics, to omega 3's, to top brain foods (such as blueberries!)

Good luck!

Celiac? It sounds so probable. My dd had swollen joints and an itch scaley rash most places on her skin. She was also skinny as a rail despite eating well. Celiac can lie dorment in your system and hit at any time in your life-- sometimes during a stressful time in your life. My dd was affected from birth, but she had a fairly tramatic birth. I know some people that it hit during college, during a death in the family, etc. If you would like to know more, I would be happy to help in anyway that I can.

We're looking into the Celiac. Isn't that a viral disease? I'm going to Google in a few mins. I know I heard that name come up in one of our appt's. Another something that came up was possible MS. sigh. I've been Googling that for about an hour. Than decided to come here for a break.

The other sites I'll get to also. I wrote them down.

Thanks agian,
