We have done the Grandma's attic series which I LOVED. We also read some American girl books which I am trying to phase out. We read Charlotte's Web. I am not ready for Chronicle of Narnia. Any other suggestions? (In case it wasn't clear, these are books I would read aloud to her)

- Little House in the Big Woods (and Prairie)
- Stuart Little
- Thornton Burgess animal stories
- the original Winnie the Pooh books
- Mr. Popper's Penguins
- Paddington Bear books (the originals)
- Mrs. Piggle Wiggle
- The Mouse and the Motorcycle (and sequels)
- The Wizard of Oz
These have all been favorites at our house over the past 2 years with DS 7 and 4.
Happy reading!

Betsy Tacy series is sweet (only the first 3 tho, as she "ages")
Dr. Doolittle (get the revised version)
The first two Pippi Longstocking books are fun
Roald Dahl--esp. Fantastic Mr. Fox (we also love his other stuff, but it depends on your dd's vocab and how much humor of Dahl's kind you can take)
Farmer Boy
Calming Tea

...We are reading through Sonlight K and loving it.
We especially liked Mr. Popper's Penguins, and The Boxcar Children.
My kids also loved Hatchet and the Sign of the Beaver (they are pretty adventurous for their ages) and a good abridged version of Robinson Crusoe.

Many we read were already listed but we also enjoyed a series by Dick King-Smith at that age... it's about a little girl named Sophie and her pets.
"Sophie's Snail" is the first one and it's delightful. There are six books in the series. I can't wait to read them to the next one coming along. :-) I'll get to enjoy them all over again.
"Babe" by him was also wonderful.
