The Classics at Home is a study guide for four books of classic children’s literature: The Works of Beatrix Potter, Charlotte’s Web, Winnie the Pooh, and The House at Pooh Corner. The guide can be used with children of widely varying ages. If children are interested in the stories, they will be motivated to learn vocabulary words. Comprehension questions are a combination of recall, interpretation, and application, but nothing much beyond the capabilities of first and second graders. A “Learning More” section transfers story topics into the realms of science, art, social studies, Bible study, and other areas of language arts. Books and stories are broken down into manageable sections so we don’t try to cover too much each day.
