I received some used hs'ing books last week, I purchased from another hs'ing mom on another board (not here) :) and they just reek of cigarette smoke. Any wonderful ideas on how to get it out? At one point, I even let a little Febreze 'drift' down over the top... doesn't work so well. :glare:

Thanks for any ideas... I"m willing to try just about anything.

I've seen people suggest putting them in a closed box with kitty litter and/or baking soda for a while (days) and see if it's any better after that. I've also seen people suggest using dryer sheets between the pages and letting them sit like that for a while (days). I haven't had to try any of these suggestions myself though, :)

If you can keep them from getting wet, leave them outdoors--maybe in a garage. I heard of someone putting smoke scented books in a plastic bag with some dryer sheets--they even make dryer sheets that smell like Febreze now.

What I did was put them in a garbage bag with crumbled up newspaper, close it up and leave it for about a week. It worked for me! The smell was gone and I'm very sensitive to cigarette odors.

I tried the drywer sheet method and sealed it up in a ziploc bag for about a week and it worked great.

I've done this before, too. It worked great for me as well, and I'm very picky about smells!

Thanks... I've got them in dryer sheets, closed up in a box. I didn't have enough baking soda on hand to that one. But it seems the dryer sheets win hands down anyway! :)

I sure hope it works, I'd like to start these books on Monday but sure can't see subjecting DD to the smell. ugh.

I always figured people would say up front - comes from a smoking home. I guess I'll make sure I ask from now on.

thank you all

I have used baking soda. Even spraying them lightly with room fragrance and letting them sit outside. I hope you can get the smell out!
