North & South: appropriate for all ages?

I learned about Gaskell's North and South from these boards. I've read the book, and I'm excited to watch the DVD. I've got a ds(10) and a dd(7). Would it be appropriate for them to watch? TIA.

As far as I can remember there is nothing inappropriate, but they might be too young to enjoy it. I personally loved it.
