I'm starting R&S English 7 with 3 of my dc. My question is whether or not I will need more than one text? Should each have their own, since we will be using them daily? Our schedules are tight, so I want to make sure it is available for them to use. And my dd doesn't share her books very well, and she likes to take her sweet time doing her work. Or maybe get 2 for now? What do you think? I was about to order 2 more, but wanted to ask opinions before I press the confirm button. Thanks!

In fact, since they aren't very expensive, I let mine write in the books except for diagramming.
I see the ages of your oldest three. I have two older I am thinking of doing this with. Can I ask, did you pick 7th because it is a good year to cover all the grammar? I am wondering this myself. I have 7th but we didn't do very well getting it done. I am thinking of getting another student book and doing both in 7th book next year. (My oldest two ds's.)

that the older dc could do, and to save time, I included my ds11 (soon to be 12). Many have said that English 7 and 8 review previous years plus some new material. My younger ds is a quick learner, and the olders need a good review. I'm starting now and will carry through summer and next year, that way we can go at a slower pace. We were using EG, but I thought I might as well get to R&S since it is thorough enough.

It has really depended on the subject here. Sometimes I buy two, sometimes I don't. My kids are sharing a latin book this year- could only find one, and their schedules are very different, so sharing hasn't been a problem. I have them put the book away in the bookshelf in the living room, though, as they don't like each other to go into their rooms right now.
When they were younger, and home all the time together, it was easier to get them each their own book.

the year I used R & S with my olders, we shared and did a lot either orally or through dictation. but I have one of those kids who really likes to have her own copy, and it wasn't in the budget to each have their own (though they are really cheap and I'd do it if I had the money).
we applied the principles we were covering in the book to other areas of study (their writing papers for history and science, for example) and also spelling words.

For skill subjects (math, grammar, Latin, writing), each child has their own text. My 7th graders do all their work in those subjects at the same time (including any instructional time I need to do); it would be chaotic for us to try to schedule individual times for those.
They each have their own science and geography textbooks, but share the core and literature books from TOG.
