you are coming down the stairs holding your cup of coffee and a basket of laundry. Your foot slips on the third step from the bottom, your feet fly out from under you, and you land on your back on the edge of the step.

And you only spill a few drops of coffee.

So...I'm guessing the laundry went flying in all different directions!! Maybe subconsciously you just didn't want to burn yourself and you chose the coffee instead of the laundry.
