Background info: Dd (5th grade) is finishing LCII (and we'll move on next year). Ds (3rd grade) hasn't had any Latin yet, but we'll finish EG1 as a family this year.

My plan for ds has been:

4th grade: EG2 (no Latin yet)
5th grade: EG3 & LC1

However, a friend will be teaching PL at co-op and is asking me about putting ds in the class with her 4th grader. Would there be a benefit to:

4th grade: EG2 & PL
5th grade: EG3 & LC1

Your thoughts?

PL is easy. I see no problem.

I can only speak from my personal experience this year but I just don't see the advantage unless he would really enjoy the class. I started LCI this year with 2dss with no Latin background and it has gone very well. They are working at different rates but both are doing well. To me, PL seems to be a very slow gentle intro to Latin meant to be used if you want to start Latin at an earlier age. It is not a prerequisite to LC.

I guess I'm thinking that using PL would be like spreading LC1 over 2 years, resulting in 2 lighter Latin years (while continuing to focus on Greek with this child). I know it's not necessary, but I'm wondering if there would be any benefit.

I told my friend no to PL twice, but now I'm wondering if I should consider it. In the long run, there's no difference. It seems like it would just be a slower start to Latin -- which could either be nice, or a waste of time! (I wasn't planning to choose LC1 yet, because I read to have a 2-year start in one language before adding another in LCC!)

(I've edited this post because I've thought more about this -- LOL!)

Plaid Dad & LCC users, would you still put 2 years between Greek and Latin if you started the languages later than LCC recommends? (In my case, ds started Greek in 3rd and hasn't started Latin.)

I still would, yes. I might make an exception for adding in PL, though, because it's so very easy. But any program that has a significant amount of grammar, I'd wait on.
