My daughter is thirteen in October (twelve just now). What American Grade level does this put her at?

she would be a 7th grader this coming fall, since you have to be 12 yo to start 7th grade and the cut-off is Sept. 1. She would be an "older" 7th grader, though.

In some other near by towns, the cut-off date is later, even to Dec. 31. In those places, she would be an 8th grader this coming fall.

She and Mac would be in class together! But they both would be bored-to-death, since they are doing work at least a year ahead.

Gosh, I have been assuming she was more like eighth grade. It is confusing for a Scot whose child was in an English school and is now using American resources.
Mac and Snufkin could discuss Beowulf behind their pretend teen mags!

It depends on what state she started in (and assuming she never skipped). In some states, the cutoff is in December so she could be going into 8th grade next year. Other states, the cutoff is Sept so she'd be going into 7th. However, in at least ONE state, students entering PK, K and 1st are evaluated and age is only one factor in determining grade level. There, she could be going into any grade from 6th to 9th though it's still more likely she'd be going into 7th or 8th.

HTHs a little,
Pamela

In Virginia, South Carolina and Texas, she would be entering 7th. In California and Maryland, she'd be entering 8th.

Personally, I'd probably go with 8th.

You could call the local public school and find out when your state's cut-off date is, and then go by that.

Growing up I always liked that my birthday was in the summer and I was always the same age in a single grade. We determined early on to advance our children a grade level on their birthday. My birthday girl today is nine years old and has now officially advanced to 4th grade.

We tend to avoid following the public schools in anything, though. ;)
