I tried asking around at church, but the moms there are either using theirs or don't have one anymore. I don't want to buy one, because I can't afford it. Can I rent one from somewhere? Any suggestions? Thanks!

What do you need it for? Can you adapt something else for the same purpose?

My sister is coming to visit with my 1yo nephew. He needs a place to sleep. She doesn't want to bring hers because she will have too much to handle with her children and carseat and suitcase..etc. I'm open to other suggestions; thanks for replying!

Consignment shop? Craigslist? Freecycle?

Edited to add...then resell when you are finished with it.

This would be my advice as well - thrift shops too! It would be cheaper to buy one this way than to rent one.

I believe once it was from a standard consignment shop. We paid $15 for a week's rental. Worked out beautifully, and it was still less than it would have been to buy one used.

You could also try the furniture rent-to-own companies (I normally urge people to stay. away. from those kinds of places, but if you only need it for a week, that might be the way to go. I think Alaska rented a couple of couches for Thanksgiving one year and had a good experience going that route.)

I bought mine used for less than $10.

Do you have any hotels/motels nearby? Many offer port-a-cribs and/or pack-n-plays for their guests for a nominal fee per night. Maybe you could try contacting a few places and explaining the situation and offering to pay their nightly fee or something? I know I would have lent some out when I ran motels, as long as they weren't already booked. I hope you are able to figure something out.

Have you asked friends who are grandmothers? My MIL has one for when our nephew visits. Could you post something at church where moms of older kids would see it? I have one that we kept for visiting friends and relatives, but I'm not someone that you would probably think to ask because my youngest is older.
