Ambleside Online Book Lists -- Please Clarify

I'm looking through the posted book lists for each year and I don't understand whether these lists are suggested read-alouds or independent reads.

I was planning on using the Sonlight readers. Now, I'm unsure once again. Will anyone share their experience with me? Many thanks!!

In the younger levels, the books are all read aloud until the child is able to take over reading his or her own material. Meanwhile, you read the books aloud while working on reading skills with a phonics program and easy readers. I have an 'in-between' stage with my children - they read some and I read some - or we 'buddy read'. This helps us to bridge the gap.

I also choose other books for family read alouds, or maybe something from the additional reading list.

At your daughters' ages, you would read the selections aloud. You could still easily use SL readers for independent reading.

Thanks so much you guys!! I couldn't imagine my dd's reading those books themselves! Whew :)
