Dd is now ready for some personal grooming. Do you have any tips to make this special

Her underarms are in need of some personal grooming and she has now expressed a desire to do something about it. I have a pretty pink razor for her and some special shaving lotion. I guess I just need to know if there is anything else I need to know. Isn't that ridiculous???

I shave my own underarms regularly, so why am I so worried about hers? I guess I fear that she is too young and will be prickly too early. She is going on ten and really needs this to be done, so I'm not about to make her wait, especially with ballet exposing her underarms on a daily basis.

Friends of mine have their little ones use Nair, but I think that may be too harsh for a such a delicate area, especially that it is so close to the bre*a*s*ts. Waxing seems like torture for such a wee one as she.

Teach her to shave then take her for a manicure or pedicure. Something special between you to show that she is beginning the process of joining the women of the family. Just don't do what my Mom did. She forbid me to shave so I started using my Dad's razor and no shaving cream. I had no clue what I was doing. It was just one step in the expanding space between us. :glare: Anywho ---- teach her to shave.

Oh, or what my mom did, which was embarrass me about it as we were walking into a restaurant. Like I could do anything about it then!:blink:

We'll do the underarm thing, then, maybe some other kind of bonding, ie: lunch, Starbucks, et al.

I have a unique perspective on this! I spent my teen years in a dorm (starting at age 11) so all my "coming of age" milestones were spent with older girls helping. When I was one of the older teens I helped the younger girls. I still remember having 4 giggling 11 year olds all gathered in the bathroom for a lesson in shaving their underarms and legs! We used a "daisy" razor and some cream. The point of this walk down memory lane is that having some girl bonding time is a good thing in and of itself. But maybe going out for an ice cream sundae afterward would be even better! :D
