Tapestry of Grace, Omnibus, History Odyssey?
Thoughts, pros, cons...I have spent so much money on curriculum over the years...ok I admit it, I am a curriculum addict :)
Son loves History, loves to read!
Thanks!

Do you have a copy of the WTM? If you follow the Rhetoric Level guidelines you won't need to spend money on a history curriculum for high school, but rather can do a great books study using an excellent text for context reading. It isn't tht hard to implement.
The Teaching Company DVDs are quite wonderful. We're watching selected lectures that match our great book titles from the series Western Literary Canon in Context. Check your library to see what titles they own.

I started homeschooling with a son in 9th and a dd in K. We used Omnibus 1 (and 2 the next year) b/c I loved the hand-holding--it made Great Books so much easier! I added in Spielvogel and we kept a timeline. I had ds do a context page for most of the books, also.
Can't recommend Omnibus highly enough, really.
OTOH, using Spielvogel as a spine and adding in GB's is an excellent way to get a history education!!

I am actually leaning towards TOG. I got my hands on a Year 1 Classic cheap. It is voluminious to say the least!
I am learning terms like the Loom, etc.
I see that the book list is a highly confidential document, lol! I can't seem to find one for this year Classic Rhetoric. I am sure I can find it somewhere within this mountain of paperwork though.
Jesting aside...it does seem to be challenging and workable.
Questions -- do I really need Evaluations, Pop Quizzes, Maps, etc?
Thanks :)

Thought I'd help a bit.
In classic, from what I remember the book list is yellow, toward the beginning of the year plan.
For a week by week list, it's on the overview page for each week, broken down by levels.
You definitely will benefit by having the Map Aids CD, just be sure it's geared to classic. It's a huge help to just click on the week and level and have the perfect map. I do remember though, yahoo group loosethreads has something called mappacks or map paks (sp?) that someone created that may help.
I love mapaids!
The eval's and pop quiz are geared to redesign, but I could be wrong there. Foggy memory, sorry.
I'm sure you know the literature is totally redone in redesign, but Barb at Harmony Art Mom did some posting about using TOG classic lit if she were to do it again because the redesign, I believe she said, was just tooo much.
HTH, any more ?s pm me if you'd like.

Here's a thread that might tell you a bit more about it. This is a sample week from redesign, but still. Classic was just as meaty.

I was obviously struggling with how much work to assign.
He's living up to the challenge, but he doesn't love it!
