I need to purchase a music cd for my brother's birthday, which is coming up on Easter Sunday this year. So, it's got to happen tomorrow in order to get it to him on time. Is there something better than Amazon?

You could buy it for him on itunes. Even if he doesn't have an ipod he can burn it to a CD (legally, just to clarify). If you're ordering from amazon I would call and make sure 1. it's actually shipping from amazon and not a third party and 2. that they have it in stock. Amazon used to be a *great* company and now...well...not so much.

Are there any stores in town that will order CDs for you? Some will get almost anything you want even if it's not in stock. We have a bookstore like that and I've been thinking I need to start ordering things from them again. They offer 20 percent off, but textbooks aren't their thing so not so easy with that.

I give a second vote for iTunes. You don't need an iPod and even though they don't have a great selection, it is getting better. You could even do a gift card/credit with them, so he can pick out what he likes?
I also like eMusic (which I believe Apple owns as well) They have a cool selection of lesser know artists at very good prices. Here is the link.

I'm old or ill informed. Or both. I have and iTunes account (who wouldn't on a Mac?), but I have no idea how making a purchase from iTunes works for someone who may not. I'm not even sure he has an MP3 player or iPod, even though he is a music hound. How does it work to purchase from iTunes in this situation?

Do you want to buy the cd or give him credit? Just open the iTunes application on your Mac. To the left you will see "the store". Click on that and it will take you to all the goodies. You can buy him a gift card or search for the cd/mp3 you want. If you buy it, the album will download to your computer (your iTunes Library). You can then burn him a hardcopy of the cd. I hope this makes sense.
