I was wondering if anyone was working on an election notebook with their kids? If so, what level and what does it look like?

Thanks - Pam

We are using a wall map to keep track of the primaries/caucuses. We will erase when it's done and follow the general election. I plan to have an "election party" and let the kids stay up late to watch the CA returns come in (we're in CT). We'll have food, etc., sort of like New Year's Eve. The kids (12 and 15) are pretty excited. :)

What news resource are you using to gain information? I'm not savvy in politics at all but would like to do better and pass it on to my kids to be aware -

during the summer. Once all the primaries are done and over, this baby is born and we have some "free time". I'm looking for some good books on the election process, presidency, etc. to add to it. There are 2 levels of the lapbooks: a K-5 and a 6-8. www.currclick.com just search for election lapbook

Do you have cable tv? Fox News, CNN, and the biggees usually have impressive displays, computerized presentations, etc. I'm sort of a junkie on these things. so it's usually on in the evenings to watch primary and caucus results, debates, etc. Dd is only 8 but very aware of everything. Of course this is the same child who dressed up, came out and proclaimed herself Condaleeza Rice. :)

God's World News is very affordable and has excellent articles on a broad variety of pertinent topics. My dd enjoys reading it and often refers to something she has learned there. It comes in a choice of reading levels, making it easy to fit to your kids, both with reading level and maturity/interest. (just because they can read it doesn't mean they care!) It seems to connect to them well.
