Hello -

I have a very bright "rising if went to school 7th grader".

We are finishing up SOTW Vol 4 this year.
Over the last two years we have also done an intensive study of American History through a Unit Studies format.

I am looking to finish American History -
Post Reconstruction - present (or as far as we get) next year.
I was thinking of using Joy Hakim's books.

Does anyone know if there is a curriculum out there that cooresponds with her books ?

Does anyone out there know of a GOOD American History "secular" curriculum ?

Thanks,
Eva

I believe that it's either NPR or the history channel that has teaching curriculum to go along with Hakim's books. I believe there are tests, too. RRC might carry those now, I can't quite recall. As far as I can tell, Hakim's work is secular.

Do you mean that you want another book to use in addition to these?

SL is not secular but it is very easy to modify and SL 100 is US History in depth, and uses the Hakim series. I'm a secular hs'er and have used SL since 2nd grade with little problems.

Hewitt sells a syllabus that covers the use of the entire Hakim series in one year.
