In the highschool levels? does BF include writing? Which one do you prefer and why? I am worried that SL may be TOO much reading, but want a good lit based History curriculum. I don't want to skimp, so if SL is "better" as far as learning the history let me know, or visa versa.
I like the books in BF actually better, but confused as which one to use for my soon to be highschooler

I don't know if I'm qualified, but I'll start the conversation.
My dd used BF Ancients, or most of it. It got to be too much reading for her when we hit Rome, so we switched. BF gives notebooking assignments, and we increased it to create a real history notebook. It also has some questions and such. But it's a thin guide, inexpensive, and only for the one credit.
My dd used SL American History, which was I believe 100 then and possibly more for jr hi than high school? SL scheduled the entire 10-book Hakim set, plus quite a bit of other reading. However, much of the extras were on the young side at that level, and many were simply meant for fun reading I guess, but I prefer not to have my children told what fun books they must read. I pared it down until she was just doing the Hakim books, and bolstered that with the Oxford tests & some of their worksheets.
The SL guide included a detailed daily schedule, some maps that no one seemed to be able to tell me what to do with on the SL boards except to look at them, and miles and miles of notes from Mr. Holzmann about biases in the Hakim books. I read the notes & brought up a few of the points to my dd, but they were way too much to add to her reading. The number of actual points made in the notes wasn't huge, but the amount of explanation and supporting details was extensive, which is good I guess... but I didn't use them all by any means. And I had to adjust the schedule a bit for the things I added etc, but I was glad to have the schedule.
That's my experience, FWIW! I'm pretty sure you can see samples of SL at their website, and I know I found samples of BF for someone online too. I look forward to using MFW with my youngest son.

Here's a fairly recent thread (http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126392) which might be of interest to you.
Hmm, now I see you actually had begun that thread. Oh, well!
