There is a note from an admin explaining these in the "How to Post" forum. I haven't been using rep ability very much at all, but every now and then (after the fact) I think, "Gee, I should have given her some rep for that post." In case anyone else is wondering about them, what they are or why they exist, the explanation makes all things clear.

Ha--I decided to look up a post that's been on my mind for a while and give it some good rep. But I guess I've given this poster rep before because I got a message that I had to "spread it around" before I could give more to this poster. I guess this is a QC measure so I can't just give my favorites a beefy rep? ;)

I run into that problem a lot too, and I also run out of rep points I can give because I use them all up too fast.
