she is having a quiz in Spanish, but they have a quiz 3 to 4 times a week so no big deal there. It is about the end of the first marking periond so the tests are major ones. The one in English is on a book that she did for independent reading so she either knows the book or not, no studying for it. The big ones are in Biology and Geometry.
Most weeks she has numerous quizes and tests, often 3 in a day and often several days a week. Is this the way it is now? I can't remember way back when I was in high school but dd sure seems to have a LOT of quizes and tests and the tests count 50% with the quizes counting 30% and homework, projects and classwork counting the remaining 20%. SHe is doing great with the quizes as they are short and usually only cover a couple of days worth of material. The tests are not going as well as they cover so much more material and of course most of it is just memorizing.
She is in a vo-tech school and 2 class periods each day are in technical area and the entire grade is based on in class projects and hands on work, no tests, etc. Teacher told dd that she is the best student in the class so apparently her skill is actually doing things rather than taking tests lol.
I hate that she has to just memorize for tests, but I quess that is the way it is.
