I'm so attracted to music -- all kinds -- that it's not that hard to entertain me with a music themed movie, even if it's not that great. But, we just watched this film and found it to be really excellent. I did note to dh that we are awfully forgiving (sometimes) of celebrities who screw up.

Aside from renewing my interest in Johnny Cash, I thought Joaquim Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon did great jobs in their respective roles. What about you?

I really enjoyed it. I did think it was a little long, but overall I loved it.

It also helped that my dad just flipped about it. I'm not exactly sure why, and there are only a couple of movies he has connected with so deeply, but I saw it after talking to him about it, so I definitely watched it with an eye to understanding *him* better through it too. Does that make sense? Part of it was the setting/era (he was a kid in Memphis about the time Elvis and Johnny Cash, etc, were getting started -- even played touch football with Elvis at the park, lol), and part of it was the music and the performances... (I definitely agree with you that Joaquin and Reese were excellent.)

I found it to be an interesting movie, though I wanted to slap Johnny Cash many times! It got me through my treadmill routine.

My husband turned the movie off when he watched it, saying something about "What an idiot. I'm not watching this trash where he cheats on his perfectly good wife."

I agree that the actors portrayed them well. They did a great singing job as well. I think I read somewhere that the Johnny Cash insisted that if a movie was made about him that the actors wouldn't lip sync. Yes, he was a flawed individual(as we all are). I found the movie to be uplifting. You really were pulling for him(even though you kinda knew the ending anyway)

I'm a hard one to please with movies. I find alot of them silly and predictable. But even though I knew the ending of Walk The Line, I liked it anyway.

and I thought it gave a great picture of the business at the time. I wish they had played up just a bit more the redemptive part at the end because to me, *that* is the story. But, probably finding God probably doesn't sell quite as well. I loved the music in the movie and I thought the leads did a fabulous job!

Our whole family enjoyed it. I was actually surprised how much our sons liked it.

What makes "Walk the Line" an awesome movie is to find out that he TRULY repented for all he did wrong and June Cash stayed with him through thick and thin. He totally abused her, alcohol and drugs, he was a rotten father, just an overall arsehat to everyone.

And he truly repented. He begged for forgivness from her, his kids, everyone. That's why he remade Nine Inch Nails song "Hurt" and it was completely accepted as the best remade song ever because he sang it with true feeling.

I actually cried when he died.

Yeah, I was able to get through the idiotic behavior because I knew where it was going. Did anyone ever see he and June in Dr. Quinn?

My husband -- I guess he just had enough. :)

I really like it also, I like most anything with music though.
