Our oldest will be in 9th grade next year. We're in the planning stages now and I'm wondering if any have experience with courses from GVS (GA virtual school). I know that students can take 1 unit each semester with state funding. We're considering it for English and History specifically. Any advice or experience to share?

We're also considering various options for getting an accredited diploma for her. Does anyone have specific umbrella programs accredited by the GAC to recommend? We're unsure whether we can get a transcript that way or whether we should pursue getting accredited ourselves.

Thanks in advance!

Where are you in GA? Also, are you religious or secular? These details will make a difference in the answers you receive.

We're in suburban Augusta (Columbia County) and are Christians.

Have you been to the GAC website? They have information on accreditation as well as a listing of accredited Non-Traditional programs you might consider. I can't personally recommend any, but being Christian definitely opens your options as many of them have Christian-sounding names. You may be able to hunt some local ones down and give them a call or find a website for more information on certain programs.

just to go through the accreditation program myself after calling many umbrella schools. With some of their requirements I felt like they would be stifling my academic freedom to choose which courses my children take and when.
