I'd love to find one that's better for homeschoolers. I'd like to find a down to earth encouraging book that I could read over and over again which has reminders and heart issues that Mom might deal with.

So many books I've found seem to focus on school issues. I got the one about Quirky Kids and found it helpful but not great.

Thanks in advance!!

I would love to hear of one as well. I am really. really. struggling with my DD9 right now and could really use something like this. I think I've read at least a dozen books and haven't found anything like you mentioned.

Thanks for these. I have read The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome (http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Guide-Aspergers-Syndrome/dp/1843106698/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1256724200&sr=8-1)by Tony Attwood and learned so much, but I've never read anything specifically addressing homeschooling a special needs kiddo.

Hi,

Well, it's not a book, but there's a very active Yahoo group for moms who are homeschooling their aspies!

How about information specifically on teens? I have several AS books but they all seem to focus on younger children. Our psych at Kaiser isn't helpful at all. She doesn't understand my worries. I tried asking about executive functions, and she looked at me like I had two heads. She said lots of kids have some academic issues and she didn't think he needed anything to help with that. She told him to get out of the house at least 30 mins. a day, eat 5 servings of fruits/veggies, and self-limit his narrow focus. Um, okay. Right? :001_huh:

Middle school classes aren't too challenging and high school courses might tax his patience. I guess we'll see! For the first time, I'm going to keep a journal of his experiences with academics. Maybe that will help us tweak things as he continues working on his diploma.

To have several helpful books. They are not specific for homeschooling but they do help to gain perspective as well get some insight on how they learn. Also I know it is not very PG but a very quick and interesting read.
Look me in the eye by John Elder Robinson. It deals with his troubled and abusive childhood, his self discovery of being an ASpie and his careers. Including the special affects guy for the band Kiss in the height of their career. There is some hard to read parts and I would not recomend this book for young teens. But for parents it is interesting.
I know these are not specifically what you asked for but I hope they might be some help .
