I am considering the LA program for my dd for grade 6. Can you tell me what you like about it and if the composition section is good.
Thanks,
Stefannie
The Scope-and-Sequence is available on the CLE Yahoo Group, and there may be samples there, although it's hit-and-miss for the upper grades.
CLE's strength is not writing IMHO. They have suggestions for writing here and there, and their book "On Teaching Writing" is very good, but that's it. It's structured such that the teacher comes up with content-related assignments on their own. In other words, they advocate what is called "writing across the curriculum" versus including it in their grammar program. You'll need to either come up with your own assignments or use another program for writing.
That said, I have my younger one using the Grade 3 program with Imitations in Writing, and I'm happy with that combination.

This is the one area that CLE is a little weak on . It does give opportunities for writing assignments within the curriculum . But if your child is college bound you may want to supplement with a different writing program to add in more .
This is what the families on the yahoo group feel about it . Really its not something that you can't add on . I don't think there is anyone perfect curriculum . No matter what you use your going to have to supplement something .
Also not all of CLE's curriculum at this time is their Sunrise Editions either . So this may change in the future .
CLE gives expositional writing assignments, and also teaches library and research skills. Combined with other outlining and across-the-curriculum writing, I think it's fine. CLE has an extremely strong language arts program that is easy to teach because instruction and daily review are written right to the student.
Many people add in their own writing supplement. We use some BJU, but mainly add copywork/dictation and across-the-curriculum assignments.
StacyTea (http://paintingbridges.wordpress.com/) and I have both reviewed CLE on our blogs (http://amblesideclassical.blogspot.com/search/label/CLE%20Samples), if you're interested.
Blessings.
