I know that I'm constantly looking at materials, gathering ideas, and making lists of academic goals for my kids for the new "school" year (which is entirely irrelevant since we're year-rounders). But what about me personally?
I could just stick to the once a year list of New Year's Resolutions for myself as I've done in the past. But this year I wonder what would happen if I'm truly intentional about becoming better than myself.
The homeschooling adventure has become more than cultivating the love of learning in my kids. I think I've caught it too!
My plans for ME!
1. Learning Something New
--Sprouting. Learning how to make those seeds grow and looking for recipes to actively start using them in our menus.
--Learn to knit lace. Another new skill I think I'd love to try.
--Weaving.
2. A Challenge
-- Knitting a sweater for me. :)
-- Knitting socks simultaneously
3. Character Development
--Perhaps a Bible Study or books on the subject of choice. This is very personal but I do see my own character flaws surfacing in my children. I'd like them to be better than me. So I must strive to be a better me. KWIM?
--Spend intentional time individually with each child. Make it a priority.
What about you? I feel my list is still incomplete. It's a start in the right direction.

Here it goes for me:
Learn something new:
--start learning to play chords on the piano
--landscape my back garden
Continuing Education:
--get all my past-tense Spanish verbs down so I don't have to think so hard!
--continue reading about Russian History, start journaling
--learn more about herbs and natural remedies
Character development:
--work with our family on specific character traits every month with journaling, reading, and accountability to each other
I'm going to blog my development in these areas for accountability. Anyone else?:D

I don't know if this qualifies just for *me* but there are things I need and want to study:
Educationally
1. Teaching the Classics by IEW
2. Continue reading The Original Homeschooling Series by Charlotte Mason
3. The Handbook of Nature Study, read (auto)biographies about John Muir, John Audubon, Thornton Burgess, Beatrix Potter and others I'm interested in.
Mommy/Wife Land
1. Test and find new recipes for our family- ones my dh will eat
2. implement chore schedule for myself and kids (and USE it) :001_huh:
3. Keep striving to have "everything in its place" type of home, learn about how to overcome my clutter habit
4. Read about instilling good habits in my children and apply what I want to teach them to myself and then them. :blush5:
5. Keep a journal (book form) about my thoughts about our days, write "Mommy Notes" to my children once a day to celebrate them (I saw this on SuperNanny last week).
Just for Fun
1. Learn to draw, with dd7 as we use Drawing with Children next year
2. Take time to draw in my own nature journal and follow my own interests in that area
3. Learn to use my sewing machine that I got last year for my birthday
4. Figure out how to make fluffy, chewy, delicious bread (like french bread) and pitas.
5. Create a naturalist's garden in our new home (we're moving in June).

I always include curricula for myself when I purchase items for school. I generally work on one new academic area a year (last year it was grammar), and Latin. This year I'm focusing on Logic as my academic area and will continue my Latin work. I'm part of a Book Club that meets once a month that I try to attend regularly, but I usually get the book from the library if I don't already own it. I also participate in a small Bible study group twice a month. Finally, I purchase many lectures from The Teaching Company that I listen to while I exercise. I tie these lectures to what my boys are studying. For example, my oldest son was study the Middle Ages this year, so I purchased the Middle Ages series by Philip Daileader. I always buy the lectures on sale, and I plan to use them in high school, so it's generally a win-win situation. The more I improve my self education, the more effective I am at teaching my boys.

Always! I plan for myself in history, literature, Bible, home ec, and math, at least. Next year will be: doing Geometry a year ahead of dc, a study of the Gospels that coincides with dc studying it, finishing my 888 list and starting a new list of novels from Invitation to the Classics, and pre-reading all of the Omnibus I books. I also plan to spend a year mastering making pies, along with dc. We have a list of about a dozen we'd like to perfect. :001_smile:

Yes, after some revelation last year. I outlined my self-education plans for the remainder of this year.
started 8/8/8
finish Introductory Logic - started last year
complete in a year long writing challenge
study vocabulary using a top 100 word list
complete the Visual Passport French DVD
complete a grammar study
if time allows - start on AlgebraSome of these are to help my writing, some are to just stay ahead of my son's learning.

Yes! I'm doing Latin & Spanish right along with my two. I also can't help but re-learn so much through their others studies (science, history, math, etc). On my own, I'm taking part in the 888 challenge, continuing with silver jewelry classes, and hoping to find more passion about growing some of our own food.
