about how our fellow hsers are in the Atlanta area? I saw on the news there were major storms there last night and more heading in that direction. Any news? Everyone alright?

If this was asked last night, sorry for the double post! I didn't see it!

I don't know if it has been asked yet. We're fine at my house -- lots of wind and rain and lightning, but today just damp and green. All the local stations were totally overtaken by news of the storms last night, and there certainly was pretty heavy damage in certain areas. I'll hope others can check in and confirm that they're okay too!

So, was it a tornado or straight line winds? The pictures on the news this morning were stunning! I am glad your home was not hit by this!!

We are north of the area damaged but both my brothers live in intown (near Piedmont Park). It was wild for a few minutes, lots of lightning, loud thunder, and heavy rain. Thankfully there have been no reported deaths and only 30 injuries, which is amazing given the damage. The Cotton Mill Lofts had some parts collapse.

From the looks of the damage I thought it had to be, but for some reason the news station I was watching was not saying tornado. They were just saying storms. But the twisted metal....I felt it had to be a tornado.

Did you have warning?

It's unbelievable not more people were hurt. Especially when you find out that there were people at the arena watching basketball games. What a blessing!

There were thunderstorm warnings for the whole Atl area with sings of rotation in a number of areas, but no funnel cloud(s) had been sited. It was crazy because the storms moved through so fast. I don't think NWS could keep up.

Back, long ago while I was a student at Georgia State Univ, we had a funnel cloud pass over the school. There we stood, like idiots, watching it out of the University Library's massive floor to ceiling glass windows. Finally, one of us was smart enough to suggest we move to an area away from all that glass. Sometimes nature is just to amazing, and you can't help but gawk

Well the storms/tornados are back and much worse then yesterday. Now it's the northern suburbs that are getting pounded. Hope all those in the Polk, Cherokee, Forsyth, Dawson, and Hall counties are OK.
