Thinkwell's CDroms

Can one purchase the CDroms without the online access? What is the advantage to the online access if the content is the same on the CDroms? I'm sure I'm missing something here:)

You can sometimes find the CDs second-hand, but I don't believe Thinkwell will sell them to you unless you have a subscription. They are supposed to be for those subscribers who have slow internet connection, are traveling, or whatever, and find the CD-roms easier than logging on. I think the Cds include only the lectures. The subscription includes:
*Registration into the Thinkwell home schooling website where students have access to exercises, illustrated notes, animations, and more.
*Chapter practice tests and chapter exams.
*Worked out solutions to exercises with instant feedback.
*Tracking of homework and chapter test results.

The CDs are just the lectures without the exercises or problems that would accompany them. This works fine if you have a supporting textbook (and answers, if needed) and can line up the lectures with the textbook.

We didn't use the online problems for Thinkwell Biology but I needed them for Calculus!

keep an eye on the homeschool buyers co-op. We were able to subscribe to some online classes for a serious discount a few months ago. not sure about the cd's, but besides the lectures all we use are the quizzes--they're short and I feel that we get 90% of the benefit from the lectures alone. our online 'class' expires in a year..could you keep the CD roms for other kids? that seems like a good idea to me.

Also, I wanted to point out that a Thinkwell subscription expires one year from the date you actually activate it (i.e. log on and start using it), not when you purchase it. I bought a couple of Thinkwell courses last year through the Co-op, then changed the order in which we were going to cover the subjects, and have not activated my subscriptions yet. So if you have a chance to buy a subscription at a good discount, you can save it until you need it ~ even if that is a year or two away. (I confirmed this via email with Thinkwell staff.)
