View Full Version : Corned Beef in the crock pot? I thought I recently heard of this (here?)
but I can't seem to search it out. It would sure be an easy way to do it (not to mention cooler in the kitchen).

I don't have a recipe per se. I was just going to throw the beef, seasonings, water, cabbage, carrots, and turnips (low carb version) in around 8 am and let it cook on low all day.
A quick google search of "corned beef crockpot" gave me a bunch of recipes. Here's one:

Hope all is well!

That could easily be crockpotted.
(yes, it is a word, I just made it up my own self)
One piece of corned beef, throw in pot, sprinkle over it one pkg Lipton Onion soup mix, spread over all that one can of cranberry sauce (with the berries)
Put on low, do NOT open the lid and let it cook long and slow, it makes it's own gravy and is fabulous. If one ever gets tired of the onion, sauerkraut, cabbage and carrot route anyway.

I've done it a couple of times, and it comes out great. Just let it sit all day with whatever you want to put in the pot.

That's how I've always done Corned Beef. I don't actually know how to do it the "traditional" way.
I put the corned beef in the crockpot with the seasoning packet, whatever you normally put in, and enough water to cover it halfway.
Just make sure you put it on high, and allow plenty of time for it to fully cook or it will be tough.

Corned beef and cabbage is a cinch in the crock pot. Aside from soups or chili that I let cook all day, corned beef is one of the only things I make in the crock pot.

Same here. Pour a bottle of Guiness (or a strong beer) over it, and yummm!

I usually mix water, cider vinegar, and spices and dump it over the corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes. But adding some ale sounds better!

Yes. I make corned beef in the crockpot for my family all the time. I put the corned beef in the crockpot, fat side down. Then I sprinkle the meat with the contents of the spice packet that is usually included with the meat. I add cold water to the pot until it reaches the top of the corned beef. The corned beef cooks on low all day.
I have tried removing the fat before cooking, but this causes the beef to shrink down drastically.
When the corned beef has finished in the crockpot, I remove it from the liquid and onto a platter and let it sit for a minute while I make a glaze and get the oven pre-heating to 350 degrees.
The glaze:
These ingredients may be tweaked to taste.
1/2 c molasses
1 Tbsp. prepared mustard
2 tsp. cream horse radish
2 Tbsp. red wine vinegar
Mix together.
Line a cookie sheet (with edges) with foil. Cut the fat off of the corned beef and discard said fat. Place the corned beef on the foil. Spread the glaze on both sides. Bake the corned beef for 10 minutes...or until the glaze thickens. You can reserve some of the glaze and baste the meat with it.
Then it's ready to serve.
