We were reading about this today in SOTW 1 and my dd8 asked a very good question, why does the Nile River flow from the south to the north? Hmm I have no idea. What does make a river flow in a certain direction?

The elevation of the land. Rivers generally start from sources in the mountains and flow downhill through lower-lying regions to the sea.

A couple of years ago I asked the same question!
I think the answer was 'elevation' is higher in the south at that location and lower in the North.

There is a great documentary called, I believe, "The Mystery of the Nile". It follows 5-6 people as they kayak the length of the Nile, even through the hostile territory. They are shot at even at one point. It give you a good idea that they are going from a highland area down to sea level. My 10 & 11 year olds love it.
