are we going to eventually be seen as untrustworthy or not a seasoned, friendly poster??

I understand the practical uses for a sale board now, but just for discussions? :001_huh: I don't get it and think it will just be a cause for, well, nothing positive really. LOL I don't want to be a party pooper, though, and think it's fine for those who want to play that game. I just don't. LOL :D

Is the rep stuff enabled on the curriculum board?...

Is the rep stuff enabled on the curriculum board?...I'm not a fan of the rep thing either -- it feels like being back in high school. But others obviously disagree (or liked high school), so I'm gonna just mind my own business about it.

I don't believe you need to worry about what sort of poster you will be seen as. I think people overthink this sometimes. It has a purpose, it has some usefulness, but it is not the "be all/end all" of message board relationships.

Just keep being you. Just keep adding good stuff to the virtual conversation and gleaning from others and don't worry too much about it. And when someone sends you "Good post" comment with a rep point or two, enjoy! If someone posts something that helps you, you can send a comment and a rep point or you can just say "Good post" in the thread. Beyond that, don't think too much about it!!!

Once you start hanging around a particular board, people start to know the screennames. To me, I know certain people who almost always have wisdom or a pov that I respect and it won't make any difference what their rep is. I did this in my own mind on the old boards.

For example, I hang out mostly on the high school board. There are quite a few of us who have been around for quite a while (for me, 8 years) so we kind of "know" each other, what our kids have gone through, where they are, etc. Some don't even post often but have worthwhile comments or suggestions. Am I going to give them rep every time I read one of their posts? No. And I don't expect any when I post. What may be something to rep from one person isn't necessarily what someone else would rep.

JMHO.

I think it's basically useless, and still a popularity game, no matter what the admins say. Same for the number of posts people have. Some people will spend lots of time saying "I agree" with a silly smilie just to increase their numbers. I've seen other boards like this, tho. Some work, some seem like junior high all over again.

I"m in agreement with Susan. You just get to know people whose posts you agree with respect and those that you don't necessarily. It's easier to look at a screen name than it is to go figure out their rep and so forth. It smacks so much of high school.
I've read the justifications from the admin and I see the idea behind rep, but don't agree that it is useful. I really hate when you do leave rep points the little box says "may you get good rep in return..." ah, huh? I know that is probably just "in the system" but again, it smacks of some sort of contest. Do we really need that kind of thinking? Part of why I homeschool is so my daughter doesn't have to play games like that in ps.

But to show my complete sense of irony and let's not take it too serious, I just gave you all great rep!

Actually the message says something like "May you be lucky enough to recieve the same rep in return." For one who has just left negative rep, this may provoke some thought...

:lol::lol::lol:

The two times I received neg reps, the person(s) didn't leave their name -- perhaps so I wouldn't neg rep them back???

Just kidding, I am much too old to act so childish.

I just tried to leave two positive reps, but I guess I repped them too recently. Oh well, I tried.
