Just curious if anyone from the Cincinnati area is here. (I did a search and found some from other parts of Ohio but no one from Cincy.) I'm in Milford and BRAND NEW to classical education and homeschooling. Excited about getting started!

I am nowhere near Cincinnati but do drive out every year for the convention. It's fabulous! SWB and her mom will be there this year as well. I've been quite impressed with this convention.

strider, how much is the registration? I've been hearing about this for years now, and I have friends/family close enough to stay with...I looked at their site, but they still haven't posted the fees for this year.

For the 2009 convention for one adult, for all three days, I paid $25. That was the early bird price. Very reasonably priced!!! :001_smile:

I am from north of you near Lebanon. I don't do all classical, but do follow some of the suggestions in the WTM. How old are your dc? Mine are 15dd, 13 ds, 11 ds, 9 ds, 2ds.
To answer about the convention: The convention early, early bird pricing ended Jan 1, but the early bird goes until Feb. 1. I got $40 for family before Jan 1, I think family goes to $45-50 until Feb. 1. I am not sure about individual. It is a great convention. I really think the teen track is great also, if you have older kids.

Wow, you are very busy!:) Glad to know there is someone near me who is here on the board! My kids are 4 and 1, but we have the oldest on a (flexible) accelerated learning schedule so he's doing academic work higher than what's typical for his age. I'm seriously considering joining Classical Conversations either in Anderson or Sharonville next year. If you're involved with CC, let me know. I may see you there!

Stacey, I'm in Milford too! There is a huge network in the Milford area. There are several really good co-ops; Wisdom's Way, HELP and Leaves of Learning. Faith Church, on Price Rd. has a TON of homeschool families, and that is where Wisdom's Way meets. They also house 2 7-12 co-ops. There's also a Classical Conversations in Sharonville, I believe.

I'm in the Cincinnati area (Morrow). I've got 7 kids ages 6-19.
BTW- there is also a Classical Conversations in Maineville. I know two Milford families who attend that one. We attend a co-op in Morrow that has high school classes for my big kids.
Cin, I think I met you when my kids took classes at HELP 4 years ago.

Oh, it's good to know that you are all nearby! The world IS a small place, isn't it? Cin, I had heard of the other co-ops but never heard of Wisdom's Way. Their prices are amazing!! My son is loving his classroom experience this year so we might consider something like that to supplement next year. So glad you mentioned it!

I lived in Cincinnati from ages 7-9 and 11-13. I even lived in Milford (1400 Finch Lane - how funny is it that I remember that?)
We lived on Liberty Hill, then Madeira, then Milford. We moved back to NC and then went BACK to Cincinnati, where we lived on Morris Street in Walnut Hills and then in Avondale.
I loved Cincy!

What co-op have you found in Morrow for your older kids? I knew that there was one that moved down there from around Lebanon, but I thought they had ended it. I was part of a 10 wk coop last year, but there is just no one my 13yo ds age or any girls that click with my 15yo dd. Do you happen to have a 13yo ds or a 15 yo dd? :001_smile: Feel free to e-mail or pm me.
Thanks,
Noelle

I had looked at the Classical Conventions and thought it looked great. I didn't see how I could do it with the age range I have. Maybe I can do it with my last when everyone else is gone :-)
Leanna, Piper took classes there 4 yrs ago. She was in the music class. We probably did meet, but I was so discombobulated at that time, from bringing Zoie home and dealing with Piper that I have vague memories of that time. were you having back problems by chance?

I generally come to the convention, too!
I used to go to the monthly homeschool day at Cincy Museum Center, but it's on Mondays, when my son has his piano lesson and I couldn't keep cancelling those every month so we had to stop doing those. The program director is simply terrific so you might like to check those out! Her name is Karen Venetian.
I think the Cincy area has a terrific looking coop for all age levels that's off 71. I believe it's called Leaves of Learning. I don't know about other opportunities up there.
There is a Northern Kentucky group that also does things throughout the area. Everyone is skiing at Perfect North during the month of January (they have multiple days for various homeschool groups to do the skiing).
In the spring, the USAF Museum up at Dayton will do a nation-wide homeschool day (they do two a year). If interested, you might like to check out their website for info on it and to get on their mailing list. You have to sign up immediately the day they post it as people come from all over the U.S. to it and it fills up fast.

Leaves of Learning is NOT a co-op. It is a "homeschool school". 4 days a week, you don't have to do all 4 days... but... don't get me started about them! It is a nice option, but it is $$$ and very far from me (I am a few min. from downtown).
There are a LOT of great things to do in this town, why I can't seem to get out of here!!!

I have a question for those of you in Cincinnati. Is there someplace where you can buy/sell used curriculum? I've checked Craigslist and found almost nothing. Surely there is something else?

We recently moved from the Loveland/Milford area to Maineville (morrow address) and i am trying to find Home school mom's in the area. I have a ds who is 8 and dd who is 6. We have been going to the Milford CHECK group this year and WW at our church in Milford. I am currently using the WTM as my curric this year and have heard a lot about Classical Conversations . I was noticing on the forum that someone mentioned a CC group in Maineville, Is that still active? I am considering looking into CC and would love to know if there is a group closer than Sharonville and if so how i can contact someone to see an open house or even info on how the program works.
I would also like to know if there is a Maineville CHECK group as well? Or is Milford the closet one?
THanks for your help, Blessings

I'm in Cincy too!
* There are not stores you can go to.
* First weekend in June there is a curric sale held by CHEC at Landmark Baptist church. - http://chechome.org/ - look on the left side for the sale info
* CATCH Yahoo group is a spot where you can sometimes list things you have for sale or are looking for.
* And this came through on a local YAHOO group:
NEW: I don't know about you, but I LOVE getting good deals on things. And
selling things I no longer need. I have started a Facebook Page "Homeschool
Swap, Sell, Buy and Barter". This page is, also, moderated. If you are
interested great! If not, no biggie... just wanted to let you know!
