View Full Version : Poll: Where do you worship?
*anj*
03-14-2008, 04:40 PM
I was just wondering where people go for corporate worship. There is no way to include every religious expression or Christian denomination, so I'll just do a general thing. If someone else wants to start a different one that might have more specifics of non-Christian religions that would be cool too.

Southern Baptist. It's fairly liberal for a baptist church.

Another other. We go to a Unity "church". Not really a formal religion or churchy kind of place, that's why it's in quotes. In fact, I have been trying to come up with a word that works better for me than saying, "I am going to church today."hh

We have small, non-denominational fellowships in our home and sometimes at my husband's parents' home or at his sister's. Sometimes we attend larger fellowships that have been held in rented conference rooms and such.
I know you asked specifically about "corporate" worship. (Does that phrase give anyone else a funny mind picture?) As much as I enjoy fellowshipping with others, I do like Emily Dickinson's idea of worship.
SOME keep the Sabbath going to church;
I keep it staying at home,
With a bobolink for a chorister,
And an orchard for a dome.
Some keep the Sabbath in surplice; 5
I just wear my wings,
And instead of tolling the bell for church,
Our little sexton sings.
God preaches,—a noted clergyman,—
And the sermon is never long; 10
So instead of getting to heaven at last,
I ’m going all along!

Has anyone else noticed that "non-denominational" is actually becoming a denomination of its own? I don't quite fit in there either  Maybe I should check out PrarieAir's home church - the first "churches" were all small groups who met in people's homes, and there are some who say we are returning there... ;)

It is a Non-denominational Christian Church. It is becoming a liberal church. We are currently looking for another Christian church or instrumental Church of Christ church. For now this is where our membership is and we are currently attending this church.

Just for discussion, *why* did you put the choices you did in the poll?
We attend a Foursquare church, but normally, I just tell people I am "Christian", because too many people equate denomination with the actual religion that you are.

They were literally the first 10 things that popped into my head. Even as I posted it, I knew that there would be people whose churches weren't represented, but the polls are limited to 10 choices. I didn't think it was really necessary to have an "other" option because people still would've done that they did here: not vote and then mention their specific house of worship within the thread itself. So, no big agenda or anything, just threw out the ideas! :001_smile:

If my folks took me to church as a child, it was Nazarene. My aunt always took me to her extremely strict Baptist church. In my teens, I joined a Baptist Church. Then went to Church of God (out of Cleveland, Tn)m then non-denominational with charismatic flavor and have been in home church for over 5 years now.
;) Dh and I grew up Mennonite and now are members of a Conservative Mennonite church, that is conservative in belief but not in our worship or style of dress.

I'm available for questions as well (we've been members for 10 years). www.uua.org has a listing of congregations in various areas, as well as material about the association.
It's got its challenges, but overall it has been a very good community for us.
