...did you buy the Aesop Core (from CW) for yourself for the "big picture", or did you solely use Imit. in Writing?
We've begun Imit. in Wr. 3-4 weeks ago, and so far it has been a good choice. It's gentle and not overwhelming for ds9 at all.
I'm just wondering if I'm missing a big piece, if I don't sink my teeth into Aesop Core (from CW)? We're planning on continuing with Homer later on.
Thanks!

I have one dd on Imit in Wr and a ds in Homer (who went into Homer without having completed Aesop). I recently picked up a used copy of the Aesop Core and I'm finding it very very helpful. I'm going to start incorporating more of the Aesop elements and I'm even having my son review some of the Aesop methods. It's nothing major, but I did feel like I was missing a little something, going into HOmer without having completed Aesop. My ds did really well and we just completed Homer A, but I can see a few minor things that can be improved by quickly going through the Aesop methods.
Hey don't change plans! Cause then *I* have to chage plans. :D So do you think I should get CW Aesop to tiptoe into CW after Imitations? (I have Imitations already and was planning to start it mid-way through next year). I'll keep my eye out for a good price on CW Aesop if you think it would be good to play around with it before Homer afterall. You know I can't plan till you tell me what to do! ;)

My oldest sons did IW Aesop and then moved into CW Aesop B. The instruction in IW Aesop is very straight forward with no progression in the writing approach, so I don't think the core book would have been very helpful for IW. However, I did purchased the core book for Aesop when we started the CW series, and then moved into Homer. I think reading the Aesop core first helped me understand the Homer core better. It is a building process. Of course, I have no writing background, so I need all the help I can get.

lol. As I was typing my post, I thought, "I hope Jami doesn't see this." I think Beth's plan of using IW for Aesop A and then using the Core for B sounds good. It's what I'll end up doing. I'll let you know more when I make my lesson plans. It's just another case of "I could have done this on my own but I'm not." My planned changes are quite minor, I promise.

You could go from Imitations into CW Aesop B or Writing Tales 2 quite nicely. That would give you a good background to go on into CW Homer. We did Imitations Aesop and some CW Aesop A and WT1 before starting into WT2 this fall with our co-op class. The skills we're covering this 2nd semester are really meaty and I can't imagine you'd want to proceed forward without them.

Thanks, gals! I hadn't even considered the IW- Aesop B (CW or WT 2) route. I was really hoping to keep it pretty simple and go straight to Homer after IW Aesop and Fairy Tales.
Sounds like the "step up" would be too much?

Like I said, we did Homer without going through Aesop and ds did very very well. Going through Aesop now, I see some minor areas that I didn't address because I didn't use Aesop.
There are some things about Im in Wr that I really like, particularly the outlining. I would recommend getting the Aesop core so that you can beef up IW in the areas of writing dialogue and writing description.
