Could someone please help me compare these two?
I am debating using Abeka with the DVD or Apologia.
I am not science minded and have heard both are good.
My son isn't science minded either.
I don't know how much he'd get from just doing the text himself
and would like him to begin becoming more independent.
Are the scope and sequence similiar? Would you consider them
both comprehensive?
Thanks in advance,
Carol

He's using 9th grade Abeka Physical Science this year and really loves it. We also bought with it a VCR tape from Abeka that has the experiments done demo style.
If you have any specific questions about this text, ask away.

Did you do the dvd course or just the dvd experiments?
Did you feel the need to do the experiments in addition
to watching them?
Was your child able to do most of this course by themself?
If your finishing this would you be willing to sell the non
consumable parts?
Thanks Carol

He is reading the text, then watching the tape which has corresponding experiments.
He is not a very hands-on kind of guy and just watching them has proved helpful.
Sorry, but he likes his science book so much he wants to keep it, and I think I'll hold onto the VCR tape for when my younger son needs it.
My older does this on his own. I schedule it out for the week and he does it. He occasionally comes to me and tells me about what he is reading because it is so interesting to him.
I didn't buy the tests or quizzes from Abeka, I just make them up as he moves through the book. He is pulling an A in the class and it is something that he enjoys learning.

I should have added that as much as my son is enjoying Abeka this year, we are 99% sure we are moving to Apologia Biology next year.
Even though he isn't a hands on type, I do want him to have some lab experience. With Apologia, we can get the prepared slides and be ready to go.
The ease of the prepared slides and the fact that the Abeka DVD is sooo expensive has helped us make up our minds.
