like what has he already studied in depth at this point? Is there a particular timeframe you are interested in? How much time as the teacher do you want to use putting it together or do you prefer pkg deal? Money? Or are you asking what should be studied to give a good foundation in American history?

*BF has a high school World and US History - liked the Marrin books but after looking it over this year in prep for high school American history, decided to go with something else for my oldest ds.
*Gileskirk- could use book list or curriculum - pricey
*Sonlight 100 beefed up
*Johnson's book that reads like a novel
*Teaching Co looks good.
*something online?

Sure there are more things.... Ladies, more ideas?

Learner.org (Annenberg/CPB) has good video based history programs too. The videos stream for free. If you want the texts recommended to go with the videos check amazon and half.com. I have found perfectly usable older editions dirt cheap.

Hi Lisa,
You should check out the NROC free online courses. http://www.montereyinstitute.org/nroc/nrocdemos.html
They give a list of books or texts you can use as a spine, and the page numbers to go with, but most of the course is actually online. It includes projects, primary sources, audio/video presentations etc. Very well done and organized, imo. And free to boot. My second dd will be able to take US hist with a coop class next year, but if she wasn't able to do that, I would use this course in a minute. She is doing the Alg.1 course of their's right not, actually. I'm not totally sure what you are hoping for instead of a textbook........all source texts, just a different format, ?? Maybe you could clarify. TWTM seems to lay out a pretty good road map that isn't "text" dependent also.

TruthQuest is an outline of topics, then lists living books for each of those topics. It is a great resource, though it doesn't have any schedule.
