What grade do you stop with the "official" spelling programs. I mean I don't remember having spelling tests in middle and high school, but I have noticed that hslers do things a lot different than ps.
So, what are your opinions on this, when do you stop with the "official" spelling programs or do you?

When she can spell well. For one of my kids, that may well be in high school!

We don't use an official spelling program. Instead, we use Charlotte Mason's spelling techniques. We will continue to use this technique to correct misspelled words as my dc need it, but I am adding a word study program to replace spelling with my oldest dc next year (she will be in 6th).

LOL....my oldest was still doing spelling his senior yr. (and still at a very low level) When he was in 8th grade and took the Stanford, his scores were all high (between85-99%) except for spelling which was BELOW the 3rd percentile.
He has learned to compensate for it, but he will probably never spell well on his own.

I use the R&S spelling program which stops in 8th grade which is when I will stop too. The 7th & 8th grade books focus more on word roots, so it changes slightly from a pure spelling program to a vocabulary program, but spelling tests are still given during those grades.
