purchased used. Oh, forget it, you wanted feedback on the NEW Cd Rom version...I just have the CD's and books. I'll still let you know what I think once I have a moment to listen to it!

We really like it; however, I'd only recommend it for a motivated student because it requires fairly concentrated attention. The CD-ROM version is almost identical to the CD/book combo, but it's easier to follow along (the current picture is highlighted). The sound quality of the transfer is good. Basic Structures Level 1 is still the old format. Grammar Enhancement is available on CD-ROM, and Listening Level 2 will be out by early next year.

I find I retain more from Learnables than other introductory programs I've tried. Sentences are introduced early, and, there are simple narratives for at least part of the lesson after Lesson 4. I remember phrases in addition to words. Vocabulary is kept limited by design in the first level to help the student pick up the underlying structure of the language. One caveat: this is not a program that will get you speaking immediately (and it's not designed to). It's geared towards listening and reading. I buy into the idea of building up receptive language/vocabulary first, so it's not a big deal for us. I'm planning on hiring a tutor for weekly lessons after DD has advanced far enough in the program.

I've been talking about me rather than DD because she is language oriented and just soaks it up. I don't. I think any program would work for her.
