I'm going to be covering American/World History from about 1450-1780 or so next year. I was going to do Age of Revolution 1 from Truthquest (which I LOVE), but, I just can't afford the guide right now so I'm attempting to put it together myself.

My question is this, do I read aloud from just one source such as the Genevieve Foster books or Guerber and then add a little from other sources during our discussion time that I've read myself? Or, should I read aloud from Foster, Guerber, Light and the Glory, etc. and then also read aloud from other sources?

I'm a little overwhelmed and don't want to overload and get discouraged right from the start. My first impression is to do the first, read aloud from the spine and then add with information I have read on my own. What do you all think?

Thanks so much in advance!!!!

I think reading aloud from many texts tends to lead to confusion, IMO.

I am using TOG, and I like how they choose a text for the "overview" of that week's topic, and then one or two "in-depth" books/texts for the student to dig deeper. That is what I would do, if I were you. Read aloud the overview text, and then give your dc age-appropriate books so that they can read more about the topic.

Adding information that you've read on your own would be a great way to round things out and get discussions going. :001_smile:

and what feels more natural to me. But, I have to say that when using Truthquest, I love that I can read a little out of one book and a little out of another. I just don't know if I want to put that much work into organizing all of that!;)
