and I'm so excited. They just took the Intro to Latin, and I didn't teach to the test, but I'm excited to see how they did. This journey in the Latin world has been tough at times, but seeing my students and kids chewing away at highschool Latin is so exciting. They can parse and read and do so much now. I just want to encourage anyone who wants to do Latin- it works! I struggled with Latin years ago, I remember when it was hard to do Prima Latina... and now those early years are easy and even the high school year is easy. I'm just so proud of them. They may not win any awards, but they did it and they even felt like it was fairly easy. :001_smile::) This post is for those who want encouragement in classical education. Latin works, your kids will learn it, daily practice and dedication will pay off and it will be the hardest/most fun subject you ever teach.

Oh, fun! I had ten take the exam today -- some of whom have been in my classes for three years, some for only one. (We did Minimus and Secundus, then this year added in a bunch of new kids and began again with Latin Prep.) I think a few of my students did quite well, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. I didn't look at the tests, so I had to go entirely on their word about how it went afterwards -- nearly killed me! ;)

How exciting! My 15yo dd took it yesterday. She's in a co-op class of 10 students or so. (They've used Wheelock's.) Dd came away feeling like she did fairly well. Like you guys, I can't wait to see how she did!

Can you tell me - how are they scored (who scores the tests) and when might we get results?

I hope you both post and let us know how your students did on the exam. My 13yo wanted to take it this year but we forgot about it until 2 days past the deadline. She was so disappointed.

Well my son took the Latin III exam today and also felt pretty good about it. Exam results and award certificates are mailed in April.

I just read an email from our co-op instructor that 20 of 21 of his students passed the NLE, the majority with honors! Yippee! (I know he had some Latin I and Latin II students, maybe Latin III). Of course, I'm working from a relative's computer and can't open the attachment that has dd's scores (I think) so I've had to email him to ask specifically.....I can't wait to see how she did!

I've had to email him (dd's Latin tutor) to ask specifically (how dd did on the NLE).....I can't wait to see how she did!

I am so very excited - dd's Latin tutor just emailed me back to say that dd tied with one other classmate for first place in their class of 13 Latin I students. She missed one question on the exam affording her Summa Cum Laude credit! :hurray::cheers2::D

(I can't share the good news with her just now 'cause she's in the Bahamas on a mission trip with dh's sister!)

Christine, Thanks for the encouragement! I plan to start administering the National Latin Exam to my boys next year. You said you didn't teach to the test, but did you do any type of prep work? What level and age did you start with? Thanks!

My boys took it too - Latin II and III. They can't wait to get their results, although ds15 thought that II was difficult.

You have tests results already!? I was sure they didn't go out until April-maybe we won't have to wait as long as I thought!

 I did (above).
I get the impression that it is possible I am being confused with Christine because, as far as I can tell, I'm the only one so far who has been able to post results....:tongue_smilie:Of course, I could be totally wrong on this!

We sign up for it every year and every year we are all deathly sick for the whole exam! Maybe I should make a connection?

I'm so excited to read that so many others are doing well on the exam.

Congratulations, everyone!

I had two boys taking it also...one took Intro and one took Latin I. The Intro one should be getting a ribbon/certificate (since they don't get medals!), the Latin I should be getting summa/gold medal....assuming I graded them correctly!!! Last year one took the Intro and got a ribbon/medal. I'm very pleased with the way Latin in the Christian Trivium is preparing them for these exams.

I can't wait to get the official results! I'm glad that others are doing well with their Latin! Keep it up!
