Generally speaking, how much do you pay for music lessons in your area?
Group lessons? Private lessons?
In a studio? In your home?
By the half-hour/hour? By the month?
Thanks, I'm researching and am curious what other people pay. Thank you!

private piano lessons in the home. once a week for 1/2 hour each kid. $15 per half hour total of $120 per month (if the month has more than 4 lessons, it's a bonus or a makeup for a miss). And lessons are usually longer than the 30 minutes each because he is having fun with them too! (for 2 kids since I missed saying that the first time)

I charge $15 per lesson per 1/2 hour for piano lessons (45-minute and hour-long lessons are the same hourly rate), but then I haven't changed my rates in 9 years!

I LOVE our violin teacher :nopity: she charges $18 per 1/2 hour for dc1, $10 per 1/2 hour for dc2, $5 per 1/2 hour for dc 3, and after that everyone else in the family is FREE! She is a great teacher too.:D

More of the same here...$15 per 1/2 hour for dd9, in my home.
She often lingers to listen to dd6 play her newest songs (taught by dd9!) and to encourage her along. We are definitely getting our money's worth, and I am very grateful for her!!

We live in Seattle and pay $130/month for weekly 1/2 hour piano lessons plus 75 minute small group workshops every other month.
Rates just went up this year, but the teacher deserves every penny, she is amazing!
ETA: these are individual lessons

Our silly piano teacher still charges us $7 for a half hour! And she has a PhD and is the head of the music department at the college! She hasn't raised her rate in 10 years. Our strings professor charges $30 a week--that's for two children, including a borrowed cello and 4 hours of college orchestra a week. And yes, we know how good we have it! If we were in Denver, our prices would be over triple that.... My dd (BA in music) charges $20 for a half hour lesson on strings.

We pay 17.50 per half hour lesson at the teacher's home. We pay monthly, so that is either 70 or 87.50/mth for one student. She probably deserves more to teach my 6yo. :)

but the gong rate for a 30 minute guitar lesson in the Chicago suburbs seems to be about $25. Ouch !

For my kids I pay $10 for 30 minutes. It isn't a fancy lesson, but I like the price and the teacher. I supplement their lessons myself. For me, I pay $25 for 45 minutes. My teacher is amazing and I think that I am getting a deal. :)

$20 per week each for boys 30 minute lessons (guitar and drums)...and $55 for 45 minutes a week and 3 times a month group lessons for Suzuki violin plus $20 for 1/2 hour of Celtic fiddle lessons. I live in NJ.
Dd's violin lesson is 1 hr, 1x/week @ $50/week. They usually are longer than the 1 hr, & they're individual lessons.

We pay $116/month for a 45 minute weekly lesson in the instructors home. That cost covers 13 lessons every four months, with approx. two weeks off during the same time period, and one week left over for makeups. It also covers group lessons, usually one every three weeks on average. This is for violin.

In instructors home or at a music store/studio.
That is for violin, guitar, and piano. 3 different kids. It seems pretty standard here.

The lady we found charges a flat-rate of $70/mo. for one 30-min lesson per week, regardless of the # of weeks in a month. This is at the music studio (although I may beg her to come to the house when we've got all four taking lessons!)
I also started (so I can try to keep up), but I go only every other week, and she's charging a flat-rate of $35/mo. for my lessons.
So, basically, that's $17.50 per half-hour lesson, with a few bonus lessons scattered here and there. :)

Last year, we paid $100/month apiece for our two oldest children. My husband said we had to cut that expense in half. No adult professional in this area was going to give lessons for $50/month, though. So for this year, we have a 17 year old student teaching our boys, instead. It's not my ideal scenario, but they're making progress, nonetheless. All told, she's really doing a pretty good job with them.

My best friend teaches private guitar and bass lessons. He charges $65/month for 4 lessons. My sons will not be charged, but we would pay it anyway because he is the best teacher I know.
