I got a PM from Admin saying they accidentally deleted threads about my sick kids last night. I assume it happened while trying to merge them together. It must have been some collision! ;)

Edited to add: They must've missed the major content of the post.

My DD (age 3) was admitted to the hospital for severe dehydration on Tuesday, after 4 days of non-stop vomiting, diarrhea and fever along with ongoing difficulty getting any kind of healthcare for my kids. We'd had 2 ER visits with other children (asthma complications and numb legs) in the last couple weeks because of the Ped's office inability to see the kids. My DS (age 5) also has Scarlet fever, and the other 2 kids also have fevers and sore throats. My DH was away for an Army school, and I wasn't sure he would be able to come home. It took 8 hours to reach him while I was trying to care for all my kids in the hospital room, and I was worried about leaving my DD3 at the hospital overnight alone since the other kids weren't allowed to stay. They DID allow him to come home, and he'll restart the school in a few weeks with no penalty. The next day he was required to return to the school to outprocess, and someone from his unit (that I didn't even know!) took my children while he did what was necessary.

DD was released last night, a bouncy Tigger once again. :) The other kids are here at home, very sick, but we've started those who needed antibiotics and we're now on the road to recovery! DH was allowed to stay home with us while DD was in the hospital, and today for Dr and Pharmacy visits/wrapping up things, but will return to his regular duty tomorrow.

I'm sure there was more, but my tired brain is still half-spinning from the whirlwind that went through here! I now have some points of contact in case I need something while we're still getting settled in to our new home/location. *whew*

They recovered some my original text for me, so I'm going to also repost what was there. I don't know if it makes sense out of context, but not a lot is making sense in my brain tonight anyway. :D

I called first thing in the morning after I knew DS had scarlet fever. There was a cancellation just before I called and they would let DS fill the slot since he was already a patient of the clinic. It was a whole, long, complicated process but I insisted they see DD too, and they said since she hadn't been seen by the clinic, they wouldn't see her. (Even though they had her medical records, was assigned to their office, and 2 of her 3 siblings had already been seen.) I told them I was bringing her (and my other sick kids with me) and they said "the kids can come with you if you have to bring them, but they won't be seen as patients."

Dr. saw DD and how sick she was and overruled the office staff. He gave up his lunch break to see her. I think he's also giving up his lunch tomorrow to see my other two kids who have fevers and sore throats/most likely Strep. (one of whom was also turned away by the office staff until he personally pushed DS through.)

And

Thank you for thinking of us!! I didn't see this post before I made a new thread with an update. I hope we won't have too much trouble sticking with this Doc now that he's seen our family "up close and personal." But I'm willing to drive 30+ miles to the bigger city if it means we don't have to wait until the kids need hospitalization in order to get healthcare!

I will start with the Doc you mentioned, I have heard good things about the Dr's there.

Thanks again!

One more huge pat on the back to you, Whisperlily. Not sure if you saw my post to you last night before you "disappeared" (gritting teeth here), but I wanted you to know that I think you are AMAZING. If you did see it last night, you'll recall that I put that word in really big, pink letters...like this:

Amazing!!!!

For having such a good attitude through all of this, you have my utmost respect. Big hugs (unfortunately, I'm out of rep for today).

Doran

Thank you, Doran. I appreciate your kind words. :)

I'm not sure I'd say I'm amazing... "surviving, with hope" sounds better. ;)

I'm so glad that there have been some answers to prayers in this difficult time: that your dh could be with you for some of the time, that you got help with your kids when he couldn't be there, that a kind doctor over-ruled the office staff that couldn't see past "the rules". Continuing to pray for all of you. :grouphug:

There is nothing worse than having to deal with incompetents when you or your loved one are suffering a health crises. It certainly brings out the mother tiger in you though. Good for you for standing up for your children and good for the dr. for getting you in. Hope they are on the mend soon. Also wishing you some peace and recoop time for yourself.

Sorry, but Amazing is right! You my poor woman have been through way to much for one person lately! Glad the doctor was so awesome though!

I remember seeing your post about ds' numb legs. , did that have anyting to do w/ scarlet fever, or was it something else. I don't think I ever saw an update.

Thanks, everybody. I think we, as moms, go into survival mode during times like that. I didn't think about much, other than doing the next thing that needed to be done. I didn't feel like things were falling apart, and that's a good thing, right? Now, after the first part has passed and DH is here, I just feel *tired* very, very *tired.*

Unicorn, you asked about my DS's legs? DS8 had the numb legs, and my DS5 had the Scarlet Fever, so they're not part of the same issue. ;) I took him in to the ER after that incident (because the Ped's office couldn't see him, and advised me to take him there.) They did an evaluation of him and ruled out anything serious. I was told that it was probably a fluke, but if it keeps happening to call his doctor and have a Neuro check him out. I haven't dismissed it totally from my thoughts, though with the serious things ruled out, it kinda went on the back burner with everything else going on. I wonder though, and the next chance I get I'm going to talk with someone about it. He is the child that has some (formally undiagnosed) sensory problems, and (diagnosed) ADHD. THAT's where I'm wondering about a connection. ;) We'll see. Gotta get the 3 who are still sick, well first.

What in the world is going on at this ped's office??? And will your insurance pay for the ER visits since the doctor's office refused to see them?
If I get worked up a little more, I could write a nice complaint letter for you...
