thermometer broke???

The thermometer broke on my floor with the red liquid in it. Is it poison? Does it have mercury in it? Figured I would ask. My cat ran into it...and her paws are red...

most likely an alcohol-based thermometer you purchased within recent years. It doesn't have mercury and is not poisonous. Just clean it up with soap like any other spill.

It is NOT mercury. The red liquid is alcohol with red dye in it. While it may stain it is not dangerous to breathe.

Mercury is silver. I don't think you have a problem. (Other than a cat with red feet and a mess.)

Thank you everyone. Yes. I am glad there is no mercury. I was worried for a moment. It does smell bad..but glad it isnt mercury.
