I was wanting to know if anyone here could give me some help on how to fill out a resume after being home so long with my children and not working outside of the home. I am looking at trying to get a job at the local public school next year working as an Associate if a position opens (they usually hire two or three new ones each year). My thinking on this is that I could be off work at the same time my children get done with school. It's not a high paying job, but would fit the hours I would need since my dh works evenings and there would be no commute since we live in a small town.

I do have several years of volunteering I did for the local soccer league, Awana program, and Cub Scout program. I'm just unsure how to fill it out without having jobs. If anyone could even share a sample one with me, that would be great.

Thanks.

The experience you list on a resume can include unpaid work! List them as you would any other position. ..and supervisors from volunteer positions are also perfectly valid references.

I started to try to type up some suggestions, but you are probably better off looking at more expert opinions:

Here's a site which also does (for profit) resume writing, but has some free tips:
http://www.how-to-write-a-resume.org/

This site has a 'resume builder' and some guidance on how to write a resume:
http://www.howtowritearesume.net/
Here's a site with a variety of sample resumes (There are *many* more such sites out there as well, so if you don't find the info you need here, Google 'sample resumes'.):
http://www.bestsampleresume.com/

Monster.com and other online resume listing services also have helpful articles about all aspects of job searching (resumes, cover letters, interviews, etc). Here's an article on avoiding the top 10 resume mistakes:
http://career-advice.monster.com/resume-writing-basics/entry-level-jobs/Avoid-the-Top-10-Resume-Mistakes/home.aspx

If you have Windows, you can go to 'New Office Document' (from the Start menu), select 'Other Documents', and then choose a style or use the 'resume Wizard'.

I recently started a job search and was scared to death about how to handle the employment gap on my resume. All I really could do was list my last employer and leave it at that. I couldn't sleep at night thinking about how I was going to get hammered in the interviews. I prayed alot about it, and you know no one ever asked. I offered a few times and found everyone to be surprisingly supportive. I had a very successful, older interviewer tell me that my "mommy gap" said a lot more about the quality of my character than everything else on my resume. I was completely shocked by the reception that I received. And it allowed me to talk to interviewers about my real goals in life. I ended up with a part time work from home job, in a field that does not typically have such flexible opportunities. God will give you the wisdom to address the issue as necessary and you might could avoid it all together.
