REsources for Henle Latin

I am considering starting Henle Latin with 13 yo dd after Book 1 of Latin Christina. What resources do you recommend - pronunciation DVDs, Henle Grammar, Henle Guide for Units I-II?

Hi Patti,

Units 1 - 7 of Henle I is considered 1 year of high school Latin. So considering that she's 13 yo, you might want to try and cover at least Units 1 - 3 this year and do Units 4 - 7 next year. The Memorial Press syllabus for Units 1 & 2 is nice, but the pace is pretty slow for an older student.

Mother of Divine Grace has a syllabus for Latin 1 that would cover Units 1 to 7 in a school year. You could use that, but go through it over 2 years (e.g. do one of their weeks in 2 of your weeks). The Mother of Divine Grace syllabi also have weekly quizzes and quarterly tests that are good for review. You can get them (and the other Henle materials) at allcatholicbooks.com. Amazon also carries some of the Henle books, but not the syllabi.

In addition to the schedule/syllabus, you will also need the Henle 1 book, the Henle Grammar, and the answer key for the Henle 1 book. You can also get a CD that accompanies the course and gives the pronunciation for the vocabulary. We like the CD, but it's not strictly necessary.

Unfortunately, the Henle Answer Key does not provide the answers to EVERY exercise. They assume you can figure out some of the answers on your own.

I, not knowing Latin, could not.

We happily found a better Answer Key (for only $5) from Seton Education

It's called "Latin 1 Test Key", and is a stack of photocopied pages (not a bound book). But it has saved the day for us.
