Dumb question: How do some posts get all of those starts?

Do you mean the stars in the threads? You can 'rate' a thread if you highlight it.

And now we need at least 10 characters inside the post. Sigh. Oh well, there are more good things about the new format than bad things.

How does one highlight a thread and rate it? I went to the index and tried but the threads didn't seem "highlightable."

Above the first post in a thread there is an option to 'rate thread'.
Click on it and it gives you a choice of stars, 1-5.
