Ok, so I've got the Nordic Naturals Omega 3-6-9 Junior (lemon flavor) for ds.
I need suggestions for how to give it to him. I mean, I will have to mix it with something - but what? I tried OJ but it is too oily!
How do you get your kids to take their fish oil?
We put it in OJ in a sippy cup and shake it really hard (while covering the holes). That keeps it from just sitting on top, but you need to drink it fairly quickly.

My son takes the NOrdic Naturals DHA in the strawberry flavored mini gel pills. He has just learned to swallow them finally. He fills his mouth with liquid, pokes one or 2 in, and swallows alltogether.

Thanks for the replies.
I forgot to mention that my ds has sensory problems and a severe gag reflex, so swallowing pills is out and I need to try to completely mask the oiliness. Is that possible?

Try putting a little in a spoonful of yogurt.
You don't notice the viscous consistency when it's mixed with yogurt.

To give you hope, mine with the same issues learned. In the first aid center at Disneyworld no less. She needed immodium ad for us to make it home (we'd hit 3 bathrooms between Tomorrowland and first aid), and she stayed in there till she figured it out.... they only had to mop of the floor for us twice.
I honestly NEVER thought she would be able to do this, but she did!!

My son learned his trick from a child I babysat with Cystic Fibrosis. That child also had severe gag reflex but had learned to swallow pills this way. Before he could swallow them, his parents would break them open into applesauce, yogurt, and the like.
The ones my son takes are smaller, like small green peas. I think that small size helps him as well.
Er... I can't remember who makes them... I thought it was Nordic Naturals... SOMEONE makes individual dosed squeezie paks that taste *exactly* like orange cremesicles. I kid you not. No fish taste at. all.
We used them about 5 years ago.

I had the same problem with DS when he was younger (now he prefers to have the capsules & chews them:confused:) I used to give him an afternoon snack of buttered toast or crumpets with the oil on. He said he wasn't able to taste it & forgot it was there.

Darn, I wish I'd know about these before I got the oily stuff.
Thanks for all the great suggestions!

Cor-Omega? My pediatrician several years ago recommended these for ds but our local natural foods store told me the company was going out of business. I just did a quick internet search and found them with no problem, ordering some now!! http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=JT-1001

There are chewable, and the only ones my picky-pick will take (and we've tried many):
http://www.minami-nutrition.us/omega3/morepa-chewy.php
they are also supposed to be the most bio-available.
We have Nutrition Now gummy omega-3s that now have fish oil in them, most of the links still aren't updated - they aren't vegetarian anymore:

however to get megadoses, you'd have to eat a lot of these. We also use the Nordic Natural strawberry capsules and my ds just chews them.
Also ran across Country Life Dolphin Pals gummies and ds will eat those but not his favorite.

I think the toast idea is a good one! We will have to try the CorOmega orange ones too.
Do those cups with the little holder for pills at the top work to help teach kids to swallow pills?

My kiddos all like the Strawberry flavored oils form NN (but not the Lemon flavored). My youngest guy just flips me out. He chews them, the regular ones, no flavors added. But he has been taking them a while. It's a running joke now because 30 minutes later I'll ask him if he has the "fish burps" (if you've taken them, you know what I mean) and it just sends him into silly mode.

Yes, that was them.

Re: CorOmega orange, does anyone notice hyperactivity in their child after consumption?
I ask because it has sodium benoate in it as a preservative.
